About this award

Horatio Alger Canada gives need-based scholarships to Grade 11 students who have overcome adversity and plan to start a bachelor's degree right after high school. Household net income must be $80,000 or less and students need at least a 70% average. One application covers the $10,000 Canadian Scholarships and the $25,000 National Entrepreneurial Scholarships for students interested in business or innovation. This is one of the few major awards that Grade 11 students apply for.

  • Full-time Grade 11 student in Canada

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada
  • Plans to start a bachelor's degree in Canada right after high school
  • Involved in co-curricular activities and community service, and has persevered through adversity
  • For the $25,000 National Entrepreneurial Scholarships only: shows an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong interest in studying business, entrepreneurship, innovation or a related field
