$500Each bursary is $500. For graduating high school students: two St. Lawrence Bursaries (going to university), two Nipissing Bursaries (going to college), and one each of the Master Corporal Stephen Smith and Michael Robert Charles Smith Memorial Bursaries. Other Branch 23 bursaries are for current Canadore or Nipissing students or mature students.

About this award

North Bay's Legion branch offers several $500 bursaries each year, including ones for graduating high school students heading to university or college. Awards consider financial need and academic standing, with preference for veterans' families and Branch 23 members' families. Who can apply

  • Entering or continuing college or university in an OSAP-eligible program
  • St. Lawrence Bursary: graduating high school student going to university
  • Nipissing Bursary: graduating high school student going to a college of applied arts and technology
  • Financial need is considered (family and applicant income, dependants, tuition and living costs)
  • Preference for war veterans and Branch 23 ordinary or associate members, and their dependants; the application form also lists their grandchildren
  • Correspondence and distance education programs are not eligible

  • Paper application form (original copy, signed by applicant and parent)
  • Personal and family financial information
  • Academic information as required for the chosen bursary
  • Proof of acceptance (can be provided later)
  • Optional brief letter on goals, interests and volunteer involvement
